How to Add Self Registration to an Existing Project

Follow the steps below to add 'self registration' to an existing project. This will allow customers to fill out a form and create their own user account. benefits include:

- You can define what pages they see when they register 
- You can change their security group so that they see additional pages, files, data, etc. 
- Users can change their own profile 
- An email is automatically sent to you when a new user registers. 
- You can create data forms such as ‘feature request’ and ‘bug reports’ to allow users to submit and track information. 

Note: If you do not have at least service pack 2.0 installed, you'll need to unzip the files in Self Registration Page Objects.zip to the folder: "c:\program files\helpconsole 2010\_engine"

Create Skins & Security Groups
Create skins and security groups to define security levels (public, prospect, customer, admin).
1. Login to your project as 'admin'
2. Create a skin named 'public' (Click Tools > Skins and then copy an existing skin)
3. Create a skin named 'prospect'
4. Create a skin named 'customer' 
5. Create a skin named 'admin'
6. Edit the 'admin' security group (Click Tools > Security Groups > Admin; set Skin='admin')
7. Create a security group named 'public' (Click Tools > Security Groups > Add; Name='public'; Skin='public') 
8. Create a security group named 'prospect' (Click Tools > Security Groups > Add; Name='prospect'; Skin='prospect')
9. Create a security group named 'customer' (Click Tools > Security Groups > Add; Name='customer'; Skin='customer')
10. Add a user named 'public' (Click Tools > Users > Add; Name='public'; security group='public')


Add 'Customers' Form
Add a customers form to allow administrators to manage project users. In addition to username and password, additional information can be recorded for each user such as company name, phone#, etc.
1. Add a page named 'Customers' (click the 'add page' icon, enter 'customers' and click 'save')
2. Click 'edit page'
3. Click the 'Inset Page Object' toolbar icon.
4. Select 'Customers Form' and click 'Insert'
5. Click 'Save' to save the page.
6. Select "Tools > Properties"
7. Set 'Users Dataset' to 'Customers', and click 'Save' (this allows the customers form to manage project users) 

Add 'Register' Form

Add a registration form to allow customers and prospects to fill out a form and automatically create a username. 
1. Add a page named 'Register' (click the 'add page' icon, enter 'register' and click 'save')
2. Click 'Edit Page'
3. Click the 'Insert Page Object' toolbar icon.
4. Select 'Register Form' and click 'Insert'
5. Click 'Save' to save the page.
6. Add a variable named 'administrator email' with the value set to your email address. (click 'tools > variables > add')

Hide Pages By Skin
Hide pages and folders by skin to define what is displayed when a user logs in. 
1. Click the 'page properties' icon (above contents window)
2. Set visibility for each page or folder under 'Visibility by Skin'.
        - Public Skin: Hide all pages except 'welcome' and 'register'
        - Prospect Skin: Hide 'register' and 'customers' pages.
        - Customer Skin: Hide 'register' and 'customers' pages.
        - Admin Skin: Hide 'register' page.
