How to Change Default Search Options in Static Help Systems

By default, the search option in Static Help Systems is set to Exact Phrase. However, if you wish, you may change this option to All Words, Any Words, or Page Names Only. This is done by accessing HelpConsole 6 static engine files located where the application is installed on your server.

How to Change the Default Search Options in Static Help Systems:

  1. Use a text editor to open C:\Program Files\HelpConsole 6\ _engine\Config\static\static_functions.js
  2. Find the 'DisplaySearch()' function (Use Ctrl+F to find this function quickly).
  3. Find "window.open()" and add '&srcriteria=phrase' as seen below:

    window.open(sSearchPage + "?searchField=" + stext + "&type=noframes&chkpreview=on&srcriteria=phrase", "basefrm");

  4. Replace "phrase" with "any" or "all" to change the default search criteria to something other than exact phrase.
  5. Save and republish your Static Help System.
