How to Make Dynamic Variables

HelpConsole can make use of dynamic variables to pass along information in a URL to a new application.

Here's how:
  1. Log in as a user with sufficient permissions to access project tools, manage variables, and edit pages.

  2. Go to 'Tools'.

  3. Go to 'Variables'.

  4. In the resulting window, select the 'Add' button.

  5. Now, give the variable a name in the 'Name:' field.

  6. In the main editing window, enter the information you which to pass (eg. an address).

  7. Use these steps again to make a variable for each piece of information you which to pass (eg. one for an address, one for a zip code, etc.).

Include a variable value in the URL to open the help project.

eg. localhost/HelpConsole6/(Your Project Name Here)/default.aspx?address=123 Water St

You can now add the variable (eg. [address]) in a link anywhere in your project, including links:

    eg. http://www.GreenSoftware.ca?address=[address]
